Mandate

  • Facilitate timely access to the Specific Claims Tribunal through client service, quality of advice, efficient and timely processing and unbiased service delivery.
  • Ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of hearings.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of the Specific Claims Tribunal Act and related rules and procedures.
  • Safeguard the independence of the Specific Claims Tribunal by placing them at arm’s length from the Government of Canada while providing the tribunal members of the Specific Claims Tribunal with all the necessary tools and resources to perform their duties.

Functions

  • Provide parties and their counsel with services relating to hearings.
  • Inform parties about rules of practice, directives and procedures.
  • Maintain records and record all proceedings.
  • Act as liaison between the tribunal members and the legal profession & the public.
  • Provide tribunal members with a wide array of direct support services.
  • Process documents filed by or issued by parties.
  • Distribute decisions/judgments/orders to parties and the public.
  • Serve as a depository wherein individuals seeking enforcement of decisions made by the Tribunal may access these public records.
